what defines you?

What defines you?

Have you watched Across the Universe (starred by Sturgess and Wood)? They had this conversation while having dinner...

Uncle Teddy: Because, Maxwell, what you do defines who you are.
Max: No, Uncle Teddy. Who you are defines what you do. Right Jude?
Jude: Well, surely it's not what you do, but the, uh... the way that you do it.

Well, I'd have to agree with all of them. Not that it really is hard to define who we are but it is true that what we are can be.. say, gauged by those decisions or things we opt for or to do, and how we do them... And doing things make you be the person you are... so sometimes, who you are would point out what you'd choose to do. oooh, labo nanaman...

And I have to say there are other factors that make you be the person you are. Nature and nurture. But much as we like to blame nature sometimes, nurture... or the events in our lives, the environment in which we are exposed to are the ones, I guess, that influence the most here. And we cannot control these things.

In the exact moment that you experience something, you react in a manner that is based on how you understand the world. And probably, when you look at a particular situation in your life in retrospect, you probably wouldn't have done or reacted the same way because you have different thinking as before. Events change us. And this also defines what we are.

I've just finished reading Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks... haha. And it relays how events change us.
sorry.. magulo isip ko. hehe.
