While on rounds earlier today. The consultant/surgeon asked the 5 causes of fever post-operatively. Of course the team remembered "wound infection"... and "hospital acquired infection"... and no one can give more answers. Weird, this is one basic question. supposedly.
The next question was whether we were able to watch Grey's Anatomy's first season. Haha. Ayus, fan din pala si doc... Anyway, the 5 causes are the five Ws.
1. wind = respiratory/airway like pulmonary congestion
2. water = hydration status/input-output balance
3. wound = wound infection; post-op wound infection usually on the 4th hospital day
4. walking = patient usually cannot ambulate, so we watch for deep vein thrombosis/pumonary thromboembolism
5. wonder drug = antibiotics/those that supress the immune system
