on OPD (out-patient department) days, we do prenatal check-ups. the rule is from 1st to 7th months of their pregnancy, they have to visit monthly. from 7th to 8th months they are to visit every 2 weeks, thereafter, weekly.
this is the time we present patients we interviewed and PE-ed to consultants and answer whatever questions they have. this is where i FIRST did a speculum (a device that retracts the va-jay-jay to view the cervix, hehe) exam, did PAP smear, did internal exam (feel the cervix)... did fundic height measurement, and look for the fetal heart tones using a steth and doppler... this was the time i memorized the number of days of the months.. hehe...
on a benign OPD day... with team 3. and the interns =)
------------------Ward days
on ward days, we do monitoring. vital signs (blood pressure, cardiac rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and urine output).. yun lang. pero shempre this is the time where you get to learn different cases... consultants go on rounds and ask basic questions (supposedly basic... hehe)... they emphasize those signs/symptoms or whatever we need to look for in special cases... or procedures...

AM or PM duty. AM duty is from 7am to 7pm, PM is from 7pm to 7am... that woud be a total of 12 hour duty. but doesn't really end there. when you're on PM duty, you're supposed to stay til 12 noon to attend the conferences. then if you're lucky and have a patient. there'd be additional hours to spend for paper works. and if you're really lucky your patient might be a special case... then you would be ask to start your powerpoint presentation to be checked the next day.... swertiiii haha..
