march

3 weeks of examination's almost over. first week was long exams. second was shifting exams. third was finals exams. and on friday, the comprehensive exam which will cover the whole 3 years in med school and a 4-hour long exam, and as Eug puts it, biyaya ng Diyos lalo sa mga taong bumabagsak... haha.
-----
i've my laboratory results. done urinalysis, cbc, HbsAg, Anti-HBS... and fecalysis
  • urinalysis - urine's alkalotic... no albumin and protein and bacteria and pus cells...
  • cbc - unremarkable
  • HbsAg - nonreactive
  • Anti-HBS - nonreactive
  • fecalysis - haha, wasn't able to move my bowels that time, so i just asked someone's else's shit.. turned out that there are parasites.. tehee... Blastocystis hominis... which is a common parasite.. the donor must have acquired it when they went out swimming and drinking and partying the night before. hahaha...

so anyway, i've submitted these to the health service and had my physical exam.
  • the dentist advised me to have 3 of my teeth filled... haha, he made a drawing, but i wasn't able to get a photo of it.. he put dots on the teeth, indicating little spots to be filled. haha.
  • the nurse checked my BP which was 110/80... (the other day my BP was 95/70, haha... cool); she examined my throat for 1 second and wrote 'checked'. haha. she asked if i wore glasses then wrote 'checked'... hahaha.. i knowwww... then she just checked the others on the list without executing other exams....
  • the doctor put a steth over my chest then counted on my respiration cycles. palpated my neck to check for enlargement/tenderness of my cervical lymph nodes.. wrote 'checked' .. and went on checking everything on the list without doing the rest of them. hahaha. she looked at the lab results and looked at my record then required me to have these vaccines: MMR (2 series), HepA (2 series), HepB (3 series)... prescribed Metronidazole for the parasites... hahaha.. and wrote a request to repeat fecalysis.
  • the radiotech had my chest x-ray-ed... haha, i stood behind the rectangular thing. the tech politely said, "dito po sa harap" hahaha.. mali... i went in front.. "talikod po".... hahaha.. ambulok. eew.
we decided to have us immunized. in addition to the required vaccines, we bought flu and pneumococcal vaccines. so i had four injections today. two in each arm. 3 intramuscularly and 1 subcutaneously... yay!

i decided to send MY REAL own stool sample in the lab.. and will be giving the prescription paper to the stool donor. haha.

so nyway... march is almost over. and there's clerkship coming up. i'm a bit excited since i'll get a feel of what it's like being a doctor. but of course i'm scared i might do maleficence and non-beneficence... hahaha...

there'd be changes in the curriculum. the professors kept on saying we don't have 24+hour-duty anymore since based on studies conducted, it will be more efficient to keep it at 12 hours. whatever. some of us don't like the idea since we won't be able to observe much and do much aside from not being able to experience 'it'... the 'exhaustion-and-the-learning-to-cope-and-eventually-coping-with' process, the 'training of keeping your cool and head up despite the scut work'... the whole learning process...

while we think that, they reason that it's because the studies say that it's more efficient because we would have a lot more time to study. and to eat. and to study. and to exercise. and to study... haha... whatever.

we haven't had the orientation yet but... haay... whatever talaga...

my friends kept on asking me if i was already prepared... (while i was thiking if they meant, for the 'clerkship'....) the follow up was if i already bought my white shoes, and waist bag, and sleeping bag... and stuff... haha. haven't yet.
